What All Christians Should Do

As people who call us Christians and followers of Jesus Christ, we are armed with the very thing that will save people, bring people hope, and help people with their deepest issues. Everything is a gospel issue. The gospel is the power of God to salvation and for Godly living. It the gospel that changes hearts, moves our heart to act, and to live righteously. Paul says in Romans 1:16 “16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” All things are gospel issues because it is the gospel that moves us through faith to live the gospel out. We are not only called to live the gospel but to know and communicate the gospel.

Think about this – in everything that we do we are communicating. When we talk to people with our words, of course, but when we show up late or on time – we’re communicating. When we eat all or none of our food, when we drive fast or the speed limit, when we wear short or pants – we’re always communicating. My question for you is what are you communicating about the gospel if you are disciple of Christ? Do you communicate that you know and love the gospel and Jesus by your actions? If something comes up last minute, what is the first to go? Church or the other thing?

Peter, a disciple of Jesus says this in 1 Peter 3:15, “…but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…” The idea here is that once you’ve lived the life that Christ calls us to, you should be prepared to give an answer, WITH YOUR WORDS, for WHY you do what you do. Our words about Jesus should follow our life about Jesus.

The people around you are looking at your life first, then they’lll hear your words – not the other way around. The people that need hope want to see you have hope, first. The people that need peace want to see you live in peace. The people that need Jesus want to see you walk with Jesus first.

Sharing the gospel is a command and a way of living for every believer. Jesus shares the priveledge with you and I to share the good news of Christ with those we rub shoulders with.
